Huairou Reservoir

Huairou Reservoir is located to the west of Huairou District in Beijing, at the exit of the Huai River canyon, where the Huaijiu and Huaisha rivers converge, and on a tributary of the Chaobai River. It belongs to the Chaobai River system within the Haihe River basin. The reservoir has a catchment area of 525 square kilometers. Built in 1958, the scenic Huairou Reservoir lies to the west of Huairou County, nestled among surrounding mountains, featuring tens of thousands of acres of water surface and a storage capacity of 96.7 million cubic meters.

All year round, the waters remain shimmering. The reservoir area is surrounded by 3,200 acres of mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests. From a distance, one can see endless green hills covered in lush foliage. In autumn, Huairou is especially picturesque, with forests ablaze in vibrant reds and oranges.
