Lingyan Pagoda

Lingyan Pagoda is a Suzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Guide: Located in Lingyan Temple on Lingyan Mountain, about 15 kilometers southwest of Suzhou city. Also known as Yongzuo Pagoda, it was built in the second year of the Tianjian era of the Liang Dynasty during the Southern Dynasties (503 AD) as a wooden-brick structure. It was renovated during the Northern and Southern Song dynasties but was destroyed by lightning in the late Ming Dynasty. The existing brick pagoda was constructed in the 15th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1750 AD). Introduction: The pagoda has an octagonal floor plan, seven stories, and is a solid brick pagoda. The walls feature many inscribed bricks from the Song Dynasty. Each level has doors on four sides, arranged in a staggered pattern by level, similar in design to the Twin Pagodas in downtown Suzhou. Transportation: You can take a minibus from Wuxian Bus Station to West Hill, Xukou, or Guangfu. There are also direct bus services to the site. The journey takes 90 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a train or bus to Suzhou and then transfer to a bus directly to Mudu. By car: Exit the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway at “Suzhou New District,” get on the elevated road, take the West Ring Elevated Road and exit at Laodong Road, then follow Suoshan Bridge along Zhuyuan Road directly to Mudu. Hangzhou – Mudu: From Hangzhou Bus Dispatch Center (Huanglong Sports Center) or East Bus Station, take a bus to Suzhou, then transfer to a bus directly to Mudu. By car: Take the Suzhou-Jiaxing-Hangzhou Expressway to the “Wuzhong” interchange, then transfer to the Suzhou Ring Expressway, and exit at “West Hill” to go directly to Mudu. Nanjing – Mudu: From Nanjing Bus Dispatch Center (No. 400 Zhongshan South Road) or Long-Distance Passenger Transport Center (No. 5 Jianning Road), take a bus to Suzhou. You can also take a train to Suzhou and then transfer to a bus directly to Mudu. By car: Take the Nanjing-Shanghai Expressway to the “Dongqiao” interchange, then transfer to the Suzhou Ring Expressway, and exit at “Guangfu” or “West Hill” to go directly to Mudu.
