Three Routes for a Micro-Trip Exploring Taichung’s Blend of Old and New

Taichung boasts a rich cultural and historical atmosphere, with traces of the city’s heritage visible throughout its old town area around Taichung Railway Station. The Taichung City Government Tourism Bureau organized the “2016 Old Town Light-Seeking” event, designing a half-day walking micro-trip map to guide visitors through the streets and alleys of the old city, discovering unique local shops.

The half-day micro-trip features three routes: “Life Behind the Station,” showcasing the former glory of the railway; “Old Streets, New Creativity,” where a new generation of innovation breathes new life into historic areas; and “Hidden Trails of the Ancient City,” which uncovers the city’s century-long development and urban transformation.

Each route includes 10 guided tour sessions. You can sign up on the event’s official website. The experience includes a 2-hour professional guided tour and a 1-hour DIY mochi activity, with each session costing 200 NTD. Participants will also receive a limited-edition commemorative postcard from the city center, a walking tour brochure, and souvenirs.
