Suzhou Xukou Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area, situated on the shore of Taihu Lake—one of China’s three largest freshwater lakes. It was developed with the planning background of extensive tourism development around Taihu Lake and associated water tourism initiatives, and is established based on the Xukou Water Control Hub, a crucial national project for managing Taihu Lake (a comprehensive hub integrating functions such as flood control, drainage, water diversion, navigation, environmental protection, and tourism).

The scenic area emphasizes the protection, development, and construction of water resources and ecological environments, focusing on optimal resource allocation and scientific planning to achieve harmony between people, water infrastructure, and the natural environment. This enhances the affinity between humans and nature, creating greater social and economic benefits. In 2001, it was awarded “Jiangsu Province’s Best Water Conservancy Greening Unit,” in 2003 it was granted the title “Jiangsu Province Garden-Style Unit,” and in 2004 it was designated as a “Science Education Base” by the Suzhou Science and Technology Association.

The scenic area offers over ten lakefront-themed attractions and activities for sightseeing, leisure, fitness, and entertainment, including the spectacular control gate, busy ship lock, ecological embankment, fishing center, Jiangnan-style corridor pavilion, Leisure Garden, Joyful Water Pavilion, Baochun Pond, Gongqing Garden, camphor tree forest, fisherman’s delight, entertainment center, and ecological wetland park. The surrounding area boasts a superior geographical environment and profound cultural heritage, with nearby attractions such as the Lingyan Mountain Scenic Area where Emperor Qianlong visited in the ancient town of Mudu, the Yan Family Garden, the scenery of East Hill and West Hill fairyland, as well as multiple five-star hotels including Dongshan Hotel, Zhonghua Garden Grand Hotel, Tianping Grand Hotel, and West Hill Hotel.
