Suzhou Wangshan Water Conservancy Scenic Area

Suzhou Wangshan Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

Suzhou Wangshan Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located at the southern foot of Hengshan Mountain, 8 kilometers southwest of Suzhou City. It lies to the east near Shihu Lake and to the south adjacent to Taihu Lake, embraced by three mountains. It is a completely enclosed small watershed with a planned total area of 6.1 square kilometers, including 0.46 square kilometers of water area. The clean water source and excellent ecology have not only earned it the title of National Water Conservancy Scenic Area, but also numerous honors such as National Soil and Water Conservation Science and Technology Demonstration Park, National Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Site, and National Eco-Cultural Village.

The scenic area was originally a quarry site. Since mining was banned in 1997, soil and water conservation projects such as forest closure and afforestation, construction of ecological slope protection, and regulation of flood discharge ditches have transformed the area into a brand-new landscape of clear mountains and beautiful waters. Walking along the grape arbor into the Jiulongtan (Nine-Dragon Pool) scenic area, a mountain spring flows down from above, converging into a pool of emerald water and nine natural waterfalls, telling the beautiful legends of nine little dragons stealing a precious vase from heaven to save the human world from drought, and Fan Li escorting Xi Shi up the mountain into the Wu Kingdom. Following the forest path shaded by green trees, a breath of fresh air greets you, revealing an exquisitely tidy natural mountain village of the Wu region in the Jiangnan area, filled with the serene whispers of pastoral life. Climbing to the top of Qizi Mountain on Hengshan, you can look north to the ancient city of Suzhou and south to the beautiful scenery of Taihu Lake, while exploring nearby historical sites such as Qianyuan Temple, ancient beacon towers, watchtowers, and "Stone Chamber Earthen Mounds."

Mountains mirrored in emerald waters, flying springs rushing into secluded pools—Wangshan Water Conservancy Scenic Area, with greenery as its backdrop and waterways running through it, is a masterstroke where water conservancy engineering meets tourism.
