Xitang River Site

The Xitang River Site is a cultural relic from the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty. Located along the Xitang River in Changqiao Township, Wu County, it stretches 2,000 meters from south to north—from Wulong Bridge to Duan Bridge—and spans a width of 120–180 meters. In 1973, over 300 ancient wells were discovered during a water conservancy project. That same year, the Nanjing Museum and the Wu County Cultural Relics Management Committee conducted excavations and clean-ups, unearthing artifacts such as black-glazed pottery pots with teat-shaped feet and high necks, jars, tripods, dou vessels, bowls, basins, net sinkers, tube tiles, and geometric-patterned pottery jars decorated with grid patterns, rice-character patterns, or fine linen textures on their surfaces. Single-log coffins from the same period were also found near the site.
