Jin Great Wall Ruins Park

Nianzishan District is nestled against mountains and beside water, with beautiful scenery. It is a famous mountain-water tourist city in Qiqihar and a provincial-level scenic area. It is home to the Jin Northeast Road Boundary Trench Fort Ruins, a national cultural heritage site with a history of over 800 years, also known as the Jin Great Wall.

The Jin Great Wall was a military defensive structure stretching over 4,000 kilometers from the Nenjiang River in the northeast to the Ordos Bend of the Yellow River in the southwest. Built in the 12th–13th centuries primarily by the Jurchens, with labor contributed by various ethnic groups, it comprised three routes: northeastern, northwestern, and southwestern. The Qiqihar section of the Jin Great Wall belongs to the northeastern route and is the earliest segment constructed. To consolidate its newly acquired territory, defend its capital Shangjing, and further expand its military gains while preventing northern incursions, the Jin court dispatched General Puluohuo to commence border fortification and wall construction in the fifth year of the Tiānfǔ era (1121 AD). Historical records praise Puluohuo for his meritorious service in border defense and for being repeatedly rewarded, until he eventually died in service along this very wall. The main wall of the Qiqihar section of the Jin Great Wall is tall and well-preserved, with external battlements equipped with watchtowers. The wall surface features a patrol path for vehicles and horses. Outside the wall lies a protective moat. For enhanced defense, discontinuous second and third walls and moats were often built beyond the main wall as needed. Inside the wall were garrison forts where soldiers were stationed. As a result, the Qiqihar section features a well-planned and structurally sound engineering system. Due to long-term desolation and sparse human activity after the Yuan Dynasty, it remains remarkably well-preserved and offers impressive views today. Given that the Binzhou and Yalin railway lines, the Nianbei highway, and the Yalu River waterway all pass near the Jin Great Wall, the Nianzishan District section is considered the best spot for visiting and sightseeing.
