Taoyuan’s Lalashan Gets First Snowfall of 3 cm, Turning Ancient Tree Forest into a Silver World

It’s snowing in Lalashan！ Due to recent low temperatures and high humidity, Taoyuan’s Lalashan began receiving its first snowfall of the year in the early hours of today (February 9). Although daytime temperatures have slightly warmed, there is still snow accumulation in parts of the ancient tree area, turning Lalashan into a silver-white wonderland.

According to the Lalashan Forest Management Station, snow began falling in the early morning. While the main roads remain free of snow, 2–3 cm of accumulation can still be seen on roadside railings and in the ancient tree scenic area. Based on on-site observations, temperatures at the mountain top dropped to as low as -2°C in the early hours, combined with ample moisture, which allowed the snowfall to occur. If the weather turns dry and cold after Wednesday, snow may no longer be visible.

The Lalashan Tourism Service Center also noted that current snow conditions are best around Taman Mountain and the ancient tree area. Among these, the Taman Mountain region requires a hiking permit to access, while the ancient tree area is open to the general public. Additionally, due to slippery conditions caused by the snowfall, visitors heading up the mountain to enjoy the snow should dress warmly and drive with extra caution.
