Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area

The Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua City, Jilin Province, is located on the southern bank of the Mudan River, 3 kilometers south of Dunhua City, with a planned area of 52 square kilometers. The scenic area integrates Bohai culture, Buddhist culture, and the culture of the Qing dynasty's founding ancestors. Designed by the China Tourism Design Institute, the area focuses on developing cultural tourism projects such as Buddhist culture, the culture of the Qing dynasty's founding ancestors, and Bohai culture. It is a national 5A-level scenic spot and a provincial-level tourism development zone.

Dunhua Liudingshan

In 2012, the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Jilin Province launched a plan to create a national 5A-level tourist attraction. By increasing investment, improving infrastructure, and enhancing service functions, the area underwent a remarkable transformation.

On October 15, 2015, the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua City, Jilin Province, met the requirements of the national 5A-level tourist attraction standards and was officially approved as a national 5A-level tourist attraction.

In November 2015, the scenic area began collaborating with Beijing Apex and other organizations to package and plan the Bohai ancient tombs, using the history of the Bohai Kingdom and Princess Zhenhui as the main themes, aiming to create a more attractive tourism product. The area has initially established ten resort clusters centered around Liuding Mountain, supported by themes such as wellness retreats, revolutionary culture, and green ecology.

According to the plan, the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua City, Jilin Province, is gradually constructing a valley wellness resort area, an ecological agriculture experience area, a health and fitness resort area, and a tourism economic industrial park.

The management committee of the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua City, Jilin Province, has taken the opportunity to strive for national 5A-level status to continuously strengthen the creation of a "safe scenic area." It has strictly implemented the scenic area safety responsibility system and continuously developed and improved the "Fire Safety Emergency Plan," "Tourism Accident Emergency Rescue Plan," and a 24-hour duty patrol system.

1. Climate Characteristics

Dunhua City is located in the mid-temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere and has a mid-temperate monsoon climate with distinct continental monsoon features. Springs are dry and windy, summers are warm and rainy, autumns are mild and cool, and winters are cold. The annual average temperature is 3.5°C, with annual precipitation of 381.3 mm; annual sunshine duration is 2,241.9 hours, and the annual sunshine percentage is 50%; the highest recorded temperature is 31.4°C, and the lowest is -28.1°C; the frost-free period is 124 days.

2. Sea East’s Eagle

Also known as Liuding Gate, the Sea East’s Eagle takes its design inspiration from the “Sea East’s Eagle.” The grand gate spans 88 meters east to west and stands 19.5 meters high. Its diagonally outstretched walls resemble an eagle spreading its wings to welcome visitors from all directions. The overall structure features three arched gates arranged in a curved formation, totaling six doors, making it the largest landscape gate in Northeast China and the first historical and cultural landmark in the Changbai Mountains.

The Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Jilin Province is known as the "Sacred Realm of Culture and Paradise for Vacation."

The Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua, Jilin Province, has successively won honors such as "Top Ten Cultural Eco-Tourism Scenic Areas in China," "Most Beautiful China – Cultural Charm Tourism Destination," and "Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Base."

In April 2015, the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua, Jilin Province, was awarded the provincial-level "Safe Scenic Area" title. Since 2011, the "Liuding Mountain" tourism area has been honored as a provincial "Safe Scenic Area" for four consecutive years.

On October 15, 2015, the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua, Jilin Province, was officially announced by the National Tourism Administration as a 5A-level tourist attraction, becoming the fifth 5A-level scenic spot in Jilin Province.

On November 6, 2015, the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area in Dunhua City, Jilin Province, was officially awarded the title of "National AAAAA-Level Tourist Attraction."

Based on the needs for protection and moderate development of the Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Area, the protected zones are divided into three levels.

Level One Protected Area: The Liudingshan Ancient Tomb Cluster site. This area has a superior natural ecological environment and historical relics that should be preserved intact without human interference, allowing for natural regeneration. The vegetation coverage rate in this zone is no less than 80%. Protective measures: Sand mining and grazing are strictly prohibited; the natural integrity of all types of vegetation and landscapes must be strictly protected; damaged woodland within the area will be restored in the near future according to the plan.

Level Two Protected Area: This includes the core land of the tourist area. While strictly preserving its natural landscape, moderate sightseeing activities are permitted. Certain walking trails are established, along with a limited number of necessary rest areas, viewing spots, and service facilities. Human modifications must be limited and coordinated with the features of the surrounding scenery in terms of texture, shape, and color. The forest coverage rate in this area is no less than 50%. Protective measures: All vegetation within the area is strictly protected from human damage, and any degraded vegetation areas must be restored to their original state. Other construction projects are not considered except for essential buildings, roads, and supporting facilities built according to the plan.

Level Three Protected Area: This covers the remaining parts of the planned zone. Protective measures: Controlled human efforts are made to protect, restore, and improve the natural landscape. Any large-scale changes to mountains, rocks, water bodies, or trees must be approved by the scenic area management committee and relevant authorities.

3. Transportation Information

(1) Self-driving:

1. Changchun: Depart from Changchun via the Changchun-Hunchun Expressway to the Dunhua exit, then drive 3 kilometers south through the urban area of Dunhua to enter the scenic area. The total distance is 300 kilometers.

2. Beijing: Take the Beijing-Shenyang Expressway to the Shenyang-Harbin Expressway, then to Changchun and the Changchun-Hunchun Expressway to Dunhua. The total distance is 1,479 kilometers.

3. Shenyang: Travel from Shenyang to Dunhua via the Shenyang-Harbin Expressway to Changchun and the Changchun-Hunchun Expressway. The total distance is 641 kilometers.

4. Harbin: Depart from Harbin via the Shenyang-Harbin Expressway to Changchun and the Changchun-Hunchun Expressway to Dunhua. The total distance is 391 kilometers.

5. Yanji: It’s 140 kilometers from Yanji to Dunhua via the Changhun Expressway.

(2) Public Transport Routes:

After exiting Dunhua Railway Station, take bus route 6 or bus route 8. Buses run every 15 minutes, with a fare of 2 yuan.

Taxi: The fare from the city center to the scenic area is 10–15 yuan.

Bus: Within Dunhua City, you can take bus route 8 to the scenic area. The journey takes about 45 minutes, with a fare of 2 yuan per person.

Taxi: From anywhere in the urban area of Dunhua (including the railway station and coach station), a taxi to Liuding Mountain costs 10 yuan.
