Hiker Goes Missing on Mountain; Rescue Teams Continue Search
A 68-year-old resident of Taoyuan, Lin Tsai-hsi, went missing on the 17th while hiking in the Shenmu (Sacred Tree) area of Zhentoushan’s Xibao region with a tour group. Rescue personnel searched for six days without success. On the 20th, Typhoon Usagi hit Taiwan, forcing a suspension of the search. On the evening of the 22nd, as weather conditions improved, around 50 police, firefighters, and civilian rescue team members were redeployed, setting up camp in the mountains and commencing search operations at sunrise today. The Fire Department noted that at around 9 a.m. on the 17th, the Yangmei Hiking Team, composed of 42 hiking enthusiasts, entered the Shenmu group in Zone B of Zhentoupu, at an altitude of about 2,000 meters. Around 3 p.m. when they were returning to the trailhead and taking attendance, they discovered that team member Lin Tsai-hsi had not come down with the group. Attempts to contact Lin via his mobile phone went unanswered, prompting them to immediately report the incident to the police.

Last night, the Hualien County Fire Bureau rescued a hiker who had slipped down a slope from the Yuewangting Forest Trail in Taroko National Park. Later that evening, another incident was reported where a female hiker fell off a cliff at Panshi Mountain in the Qilai Great Mountain area. Hiker falls off cliff on Ban Shi Mountain; body hoisted down the mountain
Li Gui?, a hiker who was climbing Ban Shi Mountain with three friends, accidentally fell off a cliff yesterday. After a search by rescue personnel, she was found at the bottom of the valley with severe head lacerations and no signs of life. Taitung: Recently, a sudden heavy rainfall in the mountainous area caused a large amount of mudflow to cover the section of Provincial Highway 20 (South Cross-Island Highway) between Lide and Xiangyang. As a result, 19 hikers were stranded. Fortunately, the Xiangyang Police Station stepped in to provide temporary shelter. Four landslides on the Dasyueshan Trail; hiking to resume in about a month
Due to days of heavy rain from Typhoons Krathon and Trami, sections of the Dasyueshan Hiking Trail at the 0.5K, 0.8K, and 2.4K marks have collapsed, with the 2.4K section being the most severely affected. In addition to an 8-meter loss of foundation, continuous heavy rain in the mountainous area has led to ongoing landslides. The Pingtung Forest District Office has closed the trail for emergency repairs, and the Hinoki Valley Lodge is also temporarily closed. The trail is expected to reopen in about a month at the earliest. The day before yesterday, staff from the Pingtung Forest District Office discovered four landslide sites on the hiking trail. One of them falls under the jurisdiction of the Taiwu Township Office, while the other three are located near elevations of 1,500 and 1,800 meters. The 0.5K section has a 10-meter collapse, the 0.8K section an 8-meter collapse, and the 2.4K section has lost 8 meters of foundation, with falling rocks continuously occurring on the mountain. Huang Miaoxiu, director of the Pingtung Forest District Office, stated that it is still raining on the mountain. Enthusiastic hikers who went up found that the 2.4K section continues to collapse and must be bypassed via high detours or downcuts. The trail is completely interrupted, and repair crews have been called in, but the site conditions of the landslides must first be assessed before work can proceed.

Early this morning, the Kaohsiung City Fire Department received a report that the hiker was suspected to have no vital signs, prompting a request for helicopter rescue and airlift into the mountains. The individual has now been transported to Tainan but is confirmed to have no signs of life. The Sixth Disaster Relief and Rescue Brigade of the Kaohsiung City Fire Department stated that upon receiving news of the hiker’s fall in Lu Mountain, rescue personnel immediately assembled on standby, preparing to enter the mountains for a search and rescue operation this morning. Climber Injured on Nenggao Mountain: Female Hiker Awaits Rescue
A female hiker who was part of a team climbing the main peak of Nenggao Mountain suffered a foot injury and was unable to walk. She was carried by her teammates to a campsite near Taiwan Pond to await rescue, with rescuers expected to reach the site this afternoon. A 21-member hiking team from northern Taiwan was ascending the main peak of Nenggao Mountain in Ren'ai Township, Nantou County, yesterday when a 35-year-old female team member surnamed Tsai accidentally injured her foot and could no longer walk. Her teammates spent over three hours taking turns carrying her to a campsite near Taiwan Pond, and they sought help from police and firefighters around 7 p.m. last night. The Nantou County Fire Bureau mobilized nine police, volunteer, and civilian firefighters to head up the mountain overnight for the rescue, and also applied for helicopter assistance this morning. However, due to poor weather conditions and low visibility in the mountainous area, an aerial rescue could not be carried out. The fire bureau stated that ground rescue personnel advanced to Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) and Yunhai Patrol Station in two groups starting at 9 a.m., and they are expected to rendezvous with the hiking team around 4 p.m. If the weather does not improve, the injured hiker may have to be carried down the mountain for treatment by ground rescuers. 1021012

The Mingyue Mountain Cable Car Capitalizes on Golden Week Travel Boom
China’s peak travel season, the National Day Golden Week, has officially begun, with destinations across the country offering half-price fares to tap into the booming tourism economy. Among them, the newly installed mountain cable car at Mingyue Mountain Hot Spring Scenic Area—a key attraction in Yichun, Jiangxi—officially opened in October, now taking just 7 minutes to reach the mountaintop. Taiwan police officers go missing in Taroko; fined for unauthorized mountain entry
Seven police officers from the Kaohsiung City Police Department entered Yangtou Mountain within Taroko National Park without applying for a mountain entry permit. During the hike, two officers got lost and suffered from hypothermia, prompting them to call for help. Although the missing officers were safely found and escorted down the mountain, their violation was confirmed by the Taroko Police after investigation, and they have now been issued citations. The seven officers had planned a one-day round trip to climb Yangtou Mountain. However, heavy rain in the mountains and poor trail conditions caused Zhou Jiacong and Lin Mingjun to become lost and out of contact. The other five, worried about their safety, urgently descended to seek help. Fortunately, Wang Yongchun, a ranger from the Taroko National Park Administration, who was familiar with the trails, went up alone, successfully located the missing officers, and safely brought them down the mountain. However, after an investigation, the Taroko National Park Administration found that the seven officers had not applied for mountain entry at all. As a result, the Taroko National Park Police issued citations today.
