China’s peak travel season, the “National Day” Golden Week, has officially begun, with destinations across the country offering half-price fares to tap into the booming tourism economy. Among them, the newly installed mountain cable car at Mingyue Mountain Hot Spring Scenic Area—a key attraction in Yichun, Jiangxi—officially opened in October, now taking just 7 minutes to reach the mountaintop.
Yi Yanling, director of Yichun Municipal Bureau of Tourism, said in an interview that the Moon Mountain Hot Spring Scenic Area is located in western Jiangxi Province and is one of the province’s premier flagship attractions. Yichun shares many similarities with Taiwan, featuring not only high mountains and forests but also hot springs, and Mingyue Mountain is the most recommended destination for Taiwanese visitors.
She noted that Mingyue Mountain is named after the moon and has gained fame because of it. In ancient mythology, the 12 peaks of Mingyue Mountain, all over 1,000 meters above sea level, were said to be the hometown of Chang’e (the Moon Goddess), also known as the place from which she ascended to the moon, adding an air of mystery to the mountain.
