Seven police officers from the Kaohsiung City Police Department entered Yangtou Mountain within Taroko National Park without applying for a mountain entry permit. During the hike, two officers got lost and suffered from hypothermia, prompting them to call for help. Although the missing officers were safely found and escorted down the mountain, their violation was confirmed by the Taroko Police after investigation, and they have now been issued citations.
The seven officers had planned a one-day round trip to climb Yangtou Mountain. However, heavy rain in the mountains and poor trail conditions caused Zhou Jiacong and Lin Mingjun to become lost and out of contact. The other five, worried about their safety, urgently descended to seek help. Fortunately, Wang Yongchun, a ranger from the Taroko National Park Administration, who was familiar with the trails, went up alone, successfully located the missing officers, and safely brought them down the mountain.
However, after an investigation, the Taroko National Park Administration found that the seven officers had not applied for mountain entry at all. As a result, the Taroko National Park Police issued citations today. Since all seven are first-time offenders, they were only fined NT$1,500 each for violating the National Park Law.
