The gambling vibe here isn’t as intense; instead, it feels more like a dream paradise for both adults and kids. Step into the blue wonderland beneath the Eiffel Tower and you’ll see that this scaled-down version of the iconic structure was built at 1/2 the size of the original, standing about 38 stories tall. The open-air pool and water park on the 6th floor lie right beneath the tower — little Amélie could never have imagined that the Eiffel Tower would actually be floating above a crystal-blue sea.
The pavilion in the middle of the lake at Taichung Park’s Ri Yue Lake, known as the Lake Heart Pavilion, is an iconic landmark in Taichung. Established in 1903, Taichung Park is the oldest park in the city. When I was in first grade, my school’s field trip was to Taichung Park — we had a picnic and then returned to school. Boating through the red arch bridge in front of the pavilion, daring visitors often seek out the lowest arch and pass through it amid excited shouts.

In recent years, aside from passing through the Xindian-Wenshan area when heading to Yilan, I rarely have the chance to come here. My old military barracks used to be near the Jingmei Night Market, so that area holds more memories. I’ve been thinking about stopping by Xindian for some food or taking a walk around Bitan the next time I go to Wulai. Wang Defu’s Lu Dan (Braised Noodle Stall) — what a unique shop name. It turns out to be a homophone for “wonderful,” which is quite creative.

I’m seriously obsessed with hot pot—even in the scorching heat, I still crave it. This place, “Monkey Eats Hot Pot,” was only something I found out about through recommendations on an online forum... I originally thought “Monkey Eats Hot Pot” was near National Chung Hsing University, but it turns out it’s right in the Gōngyì Road shopping district. There’s a parking lot next to the restaurant and another across the street, which is pretty convenient.
