Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
As night falls and the lights come on, the city’s silhouette can be fully appreciated from above. Among them, Hokkaido in Japan, known for its exceptionally clean air, offers clear night views with ease. Netizen“NG Travel”shared the “Top Three Night Views of Hokkaido” in“Travel That’s Super Awesome”, namely Mount Hakodate in Hakodate, Moerenuma Park in Sapporo, and Mount Tenguyama in Otaru City. Personally, I find the night view from Mount Hakodate the most enchanting.
1. Mount Hakodate
Located in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Mount Hakodate boasts the world-famous Million Dollar Night View. Its global recognition is mainly due to the fact that the city of Hakodate is surrounded on one side by Hakodate Bay and on the other by the Tsugaru Strait, with a rare double-semicircular bay encircling the city. As night falls, the lights illuminate the entire city of Hakodate, resembling a dazzling funnel descending to earth. This breathtaking scenery attracts travelers from around the world who specifically come to see it.

2. Moerenuma Park
Located in Sapporo, Moerenuma Park is also one of Hokkaido’s top three night views. It replaced Mount Hakodate and was selected as one of Japan’s New Three Major Night Views in 2015. Whether you take the steep cable car ride or visit the mountaintop observation deck, you can enjoy a sweeping view of Sapporo’s dense sea of lights. On clear days, you can even see the distant Ishikari Bay of the Sea of Japan and the Shakotan-Sōbetsu Mountain Range.

3. Mount Tenguyama
With those mountains, that sea, and the city of Otaru, Otaru has more than just its canal and old streets—it also offers an unexpectedly dreamy night view. In addition to taking the cable car, you can also drive up the mountain to the highly recommended rooftop observation deck for sightseeing. The houses are built along the mountains and sea, and you can take in the full view of Ishikari Bay, Otaru Bay, and the cityscape. As day turns to night, the fading light gives way to city lights, offering extraordinary charm.
