The Cape Cross Seal Reserve is located on the southern Atlantic coast of Namibia and is said to be the world's only seal beach. Covering an area of about 60 square kilometers, the reserve is home to 80,000–100,000 seals year-round, which can increase to over 200,000 or even more during the breeding season. Every year, it draws large crowds of tourists from all over the world to witness the spectacular sight of the seals, making it one of Namibia’s major tourist attractions.

The Cape Cross Seal Reserve boasts the highest number and density of seals in the world. Amid the roaring waves, the seals move and hunt continuously with agile and graceful movements, occasionally popping up their whiskered little faces to look around. Dark masses of them gather in groups, creating a truly magnificent scene. But once they climb onto the sandy beaches and rocks, they become extremely clumsy, lazily lying about in the sun. This is the seals’ home, their kingdom—a breathtaking and unique spectacle that can only be seen on this small beach in Namibia, leaving visitors in awe.

The reason there are so many seals at Cape Cross is that the area lies at the meeting point of the cold Benguela Current and the warm Angola Current, creating an ocean environment highly suitable for the growth of plankton. The abundance of plankton provides rich food for fish, which in turn attract large numbers of them to feed here—offering ideal conditions for the massive gathering of seals.
