36 days. 8,210 kilometers. From South Africa (Cape Town) to Kenya. This is an extraordinary motorcycle expedition across Africa—the "Riding with Lions" African Wildlife Conservation & Ecological Environment Survey. It marks the first time Chinese riders have crossed Africa while advocating for wildlife protection, sending a global message to preserve the last sanctuaries of wildlife.
The "Riding with Lions" African Wildlife Conservation & Ecological Environment Survey was jointly initiated by renowned Chinese architect Huang Yanwei (from Chongqing), celebrated artist Liao Yibai (from Chongqing), prominent financier Han Binghua, world-class planner Paul William Losena (Canada), acclaimed musician Thaddeus (Canada), and globally recognized architect Tony Gann (Canada). Departing from Cape Town, South Africa on May 4th, the team traveled exclusively on BMW rally motorcycles, covering 8,210 kilometers over 36 days, with Kenya as their final destination to rendezvous with Mr. Starbs (the first Chinese individual engaged in wildlife conservation in Africa).
This initiative aims to draw public attention through comprehensive field research, photographic documentation, and the expedition itself, ultimately raising global awareness about protecting Earth’s last remaining wildlife habitats.
On the 16th day, their journey had reached the 12th day. At Sichuan Fine Arts Institute's Little Theater in Chongqing University Town, Starbs shared insights from his wildlife conservation work in Africa and connected live with Huang Yanwei’s team, who were then traversing Namibia. Starbs expressed hope that more passionate wildlife volunteers would join the cause, declaring to the world: "Wildlife conservation—China is here."
