The Crystal Gallery Museum (Kristall Galerie) is located in Swakopmund, a coastal city in Namibia. Known as the "Pearl of the Coast," this beautiful city features many houses with European architectural styles, and within it stands a very famous Crystal Gallery Museum. Every tourist visiting the city makes it a point to visit this museum to feast their eyes.

So why is this not-so-large museum so famous and so appealing to visitors? While the dazzling array of crystals and other gemstones housed within certainly plays a big part, the most captivating and must-see attraction is a massive crystal on display in the ground-floor hall of the museum. This crystal is not only the museum’s prized exhibit but also a national treasure of Namibia. It is clustered in form, yellow with a slight reddish tint, standing about 3 meters tall, so thick that it would take five or six people joining hands to encircle it, and weighing an astonishing 14.1 tons — making it the largest crystal ever discovered in the world.

According to experts, this crystal formed approximately 500 million years ago and was discovered in 1985 in the suburbs of Karibib, in Namibia’s Erongo Region. Since the discovery of this world-record-holding national treasure in Karibib, the once-obscure small town has gained significant fame. All domestic and international tourists who visit the Crystal Gallery Museum know that Karibib is the birthplace of the world’s largest crystal.
