Epupa Falls

Epupa Falls, called Monte Negro Falls in Angola, are created by the Kunene River flowing along the boundary between Angola and Namibia. They are situated in the Kaokoland area of Namibia’s Kunene Region, about 135 km upstream from Ruacana Falls.

The Kunene River is only 0.5 km wide, but the resulting Epupa Falls span 1.5 km in width, with the largest single drop measuring 37 meters. The name “Epupa” means “foam” in the Herero language, referring to the spray created by the cascading water.

Although access to Epupa Falls is not very convenient, it remains one of Namibia’s most outstanding attractions. Its main appeal lies in the pristine environment, the blue sky, and the beautiful surroundings featuring fig trees, baobabs, fan palms, and the colorful rocks near the falls. If you’re lucky, you might even see a stunning rainbow formed by the mist.
