Ruacana Falls is located on the Kunene River in the Omusati Region of northern Namibia, near the town of Ruacana. With a height of 120 meters and a width of 700 meters, it is the largest waterfall in Africa by both width and volume.

When discussing Ruacana Falls, it’s important to differentiate between the dry and rainy seasons. During the rainy season, when water levels are high, the waterfall cascades down the mountain with tremendous force, resembling an unending flood plummeting from the sky. In contrast, during the dry season, there is little to no water, leaving only the towering cliffs and the lush vegetation growing on them—there’s no trace of a waterfall at all. Therefore, the best time to visit Ruacana Falls is undoubtedly during the rainy season when water is abundant. From a distance, you can hear the thunderous roar of the falls and see the white, silk-like flow of water. Below the falls lies a deep canyon, 115 meters deep and 600 meters wide, where the water plunges from the mountaintop into the vast chasm.
