Erlongshitai National Forest Park

Erlongshitai National Forest Park is a national-level forest park.

Erlongshitai National Forest Park is located in the Manhan Mountain area in the northwest of Liangcheng County, Inner Mongolia, over 60 kilometers from Hohhot. Originally a state-owned Manhan Mountain Forest Farm, it was approved as a national forest park by the Ministry of Forestry in 1993, covering an area of more than 40,000 mu.

The park features numerous peaks and lush vegetation. In spring, mountain flowers bloom in vibrant colors, and the park is a sea of flowers with 360 species of trees full of life. In summer, the green trees provide shade, the springs are cool and clear, and the climate is pleasant. In autumn, the colorful foliage—red, yellow, orange, and green—paints the mountains, offering breathtaking views that rival those of Beijing's Fragrant Hills. In winter, the park is covered in snow, with the pine trees whispering in the wind.

Erlongshitai National Forest Park is a sea of trees, a treasure trove of medicinal herbs, and a paradise for wildlife. It is home to precious tree species such as spruce, Korean pine, Chinese pine, larch, Amur cork tree, and Chinese arborvitae, which grow thickly, covering the land with their verdant canopies. Scattered among the layers of pine forests are patches of birch and poplar trees. In the corners of the primeval forest, one can also find wild fruit trees such as apricot, elm, cherry, hawthorn, and sea buckthorn, along with over 50 types of shrubs. These layered, flower-rich, and well-distributed plants create a richly diverse landscape. This expanse of 40,000 mu of pristine and secondary natural forests plays a unique role in soil conservation, water retention, and climate regulation, making it ecologically significant. Where there are trees, there is grass; where there is grass, there are medicinal plants. This area can be considered the kingdom of medicinal flora in Inner Mongolia, with herbs like licorice, earthworm, astragalus, peony, gentian, coptis, polygala, Stellera chamaejasme, stemona, sinomenium, wind-chasing herb, and trollflower growing abundantly. Liu Junjie also told us that local villagers have found wild ginseng in the mountains, attracting people from nearby villages to come see. The dense forests and thick grass also support a wide variety of wildlife. The national forest park is a haven for animals to live and breed, with wolves, roe deer, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, and rabbits roaming the woods. Birds such as partridges, pheasants, quails, owls, and eagles are even more common. At night, when the mountains are dark and the forests thick, the forestry workers dare not go out alone but must travel in groups.
