The Azure Window is situated in Dwejra Bay on the western coast of Gozo Island. It is a massive natural rock arch carved out of the limestone cliffs by the relentless force of the sea. Through the arch, one can gaze at the blue sky and sea on the other side, giving it the appearance of a blue-framed window or door — thus earning its name. The waters here are strikingly clear and blue, and the underwater landscape is equally stunning, making it an ideal spot for swimming, diving, boating, and other water activities. It is one of the most famous attractions on Gozo Island.

The latest measurements indicate that the Azure Window stands 22.54 meters high and is a huge sea cave formed through years of erosion by the sea. With its crystal-clear blue waters and breathtaking scenery, it has served as a filming location for numerous movies and TV shows. Notable productions include "Clash of the Titans" (1981), "The Odyssey" (1997), and "The Count of Monte Cristo" (2002). However, in recent years, parts of the rock formation have continuously collapsed. Comparing footage from earlier films shot at the site, it is evident that the rock above the arch had become dangerously thin. It is predicted that the Azure Window may disappear from the Earth forever in the coming years. When that happens, it will be renamed the “Azure Pinnacle.”
