St. Paul's Cathedral, Malta

St. Paul's Cathedral is an Anglican church, quietly situated in Independence Square in Malta’s capital, Valletta, and is one of the city’s most iconic buildings.

In the 19th century, Queen Adelaide, wife of King William IV of England, visited Malta and found that there was no place for Anglican worshippers to pray. She ordered the construction of a church, which was named St. Paul's Cathedral. Designed by William Scamp, the cathedral was built between 1839 and 1844, featuring a neoclassical architectural style and standing 60 meters tall.

The exterior of St. Paul's Cathedral appears very simple, but the interior is adorned with Corinthian columns and features decorations that are highly elaborate, even luxurious. In 1939, Queen Adelaide herself laid the foundation stone, and today her flag still hangs in front of the church choir.
