Valletta is located on the eastern coast of the main island of Malta and serves as the country’s capital. It is the administrative, commercial, and transportation hub of Malta. Situated in the central Mediterranean, Valletta is a key junction for maritime transport between Europe, Asia, and Africa, giving it significant strategic importance and earning it the nickname “the heart of the Mediterranean.”

Valletta is also well known for its football club, one of the best in Malta. The city has even made it to the silver screen—parts of Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film Munich were filmed in Valletta. The city features a neat and orderly layout, with straight, narrow streets lined by buildings made from Malta’s distinctive limestone, which gives them a grayish-white hue. The area is rich in historic sites, and the architecture is complemented by green courtyards and tree- and flower-filled squares, creating a fresh, elegant, and clean aesthetic. This cultural heritage city boasts numerous quaint buildings that house cafés, restaurants, banks, hotels, and government offices. One of the most interesting sights is a former fortress converted into a park, offering visitors views of the harbor and the Maltese islands.

Valletta has its own unique cultural essence and character. On its streets and alleys, you can find magnificent Baroque-style buildings and floodlit military fortresses at any time. A variety of small shops decorate the ancient, narrow streets—including antique shops, bookstores, and jewelry stores.
