Introduction The Church of St. Francis el Grande was built in 1761 and features the world's fourth-largest dome.

The church was built on the site of an old Franciscan monastery, which legend says was visited by Saint Francis. The original design was created by a friar, and the master architect Sabatini successfully solved the design challenges of the church’s dome, finally completing it in 1776.
