Sabatini Gardens
Introduction The Sabatini Gardens can be considered the “royal gardens” of the Royal Palace of Madrid. Built in the 1930s, they were named in honor of the famous 18th-century Italian architect Francesco Sabatini. Francesco Sabatini designed many well-known buildings and monuments in Madrid, such as the Alcalá Gate.
Neatly trimmed geometric hedges of boxwood blend seamlessly with white fountains, while cylindrical cypresses frame sculptures throughout the garden. A statue of King Carlos III stands in the gardens — it was this monarch who commissioned Sabatini to carry out large-scale urban development in Madrid.
