Introduction The Royal Theatre of Madrid was built during the reign of Queen Isabella II of Spain. After renovation in 1997, it was reopened as an opera house, hosting performances of opera, recitals, concerts, orchestral music, zarzuela (a Spanish form of light opera), and dance.
