Gauguin’s "From There" (Mata Mua): A representative figure of Post-Impressionism, Gauguin grew tired of urban life and longed for the customs and art of primitive tribes. He traveled across the ocean to live and create on Tahiti in the South Pacific until his death. With simple lines and strong color blocks, he depicted the lives of indigenous peoples, expressing his love for this peaceful, almost primitive way of living. His works are rich in subjective expression and decorative effect. Gauguin’s art had a profound influence on modern painting, and he is referred to as the “founder of Symbolism.”
