Plaza de España is a large square and popular tourist destination in central Madrid, Spain. It is located at the western end of Gran Vía, with the Royal Palace of Madrid not far to the south.

At the center of Plaza de España is the Monument to Miguel de Cervantes, which includes a stone statue of Cervantes at the top, bronze statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza in front, and two stone figures representing Don Quixote’s true loves: the humble peasant girl Aldonza Lorenzo and the imagined beauty Dulcinea del Toboso. Most of the buildings around the square were constructed between 1925 and 1930, with completion in 1957. The square features Madrid’s two tallest buildings: the 142-meter-tall Torre de Madrid (completed in 1957) and the 117-meter-tall Edificio España (completed in 1953). The area is surrounded by Romanesque arcades, arches, columns, and Sevillian-style architecture that blends Arabic and Spanish styles, earning it recognition as one of the most beautiful squares in Spain.
