Introduction Delfshaven — an area located to the right of the harbor center, where centuries-old buildings nestle against picturesque docks, evoking nostalgia for the Dutch Golden Age of seafaring. Here you’ll find Dutch old streets that look like they’re straight out of a painting. About 375 years ago, British Puritans set sail from here to America for their faith.

In addition, Delfshaven is also known as the birthplace of Piet Heyn. Born in 1577, this commander of the Dutch West India Company fleet once captured a Spanish “treasure” fleet, and his statue still stands in Piet Heyn Square to this day. The area’s rich cultural heritage also includes the former guildhall of the 17th-century Sack Carriers Guild. Former warehouses have now been transformed into shops, art galleries, or intriguing museums.
