Even a seemingly dull library can be truly unique. The renowned Dutch architectural firm MVRDV has created the Book Mountain library near the Port of Rotterdam. Its transparent pyramid design has successfully captured the attention of many visitors.

The Book Mountain library is inspired by the concept of a traditional barn, aiming to preserve the historical impression left by agriculture in this city. It features a five-story bookshelf design connected by spiraling staircases. The clean lines add a modern spatial feel to the interior. In addition, the large glass shell allows an abundance of natural light, making the space bright and airy. Moreover, to promote environmental sustainability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the library does not use air conditioning. In summer, ventilation is used to cool the space, while in winter, the floor heating and double-glazed windows provide insulation—every detail showcases thoughtful design.
