Who’s seen cows grazing on the sea!? A floating farm on the harbor presents a visually conflicting, ultra-quaint scene.

This floating water-based farm is located in the Port of Rotterdam, southwest of Amsterdam, and was developed by the local Goldsmith Company in Rotterdam. It aims to create an architectural solution that adapts to the climate while reducing pollution and transportation costs.

The floating farm is built right in the harbor.
The floating farm supplies Rotterdam with fresh milk and yogurt, not only making use of unused space but also significantly reducing food transportation costs. This concept can also be adopted by other port cities.

The floating farm in the Port of Rotterdam can accommodate 40 cows and produces over 200 gallons of fresh milk and yogurt every day. The manure produced by the livestock can also be collected and reused, sold as fertilizer.

The cows can gaze at the harbor while munching on pasture.
The floating farm is designed with two levels: the upper level is where the cows graze and where robots handle the milking, while the lower level is a greenhouse used to grow pasture for feeding the cows.
