A Must-Visit Hague Landmark: Madurodam – Travel Through Holland’s Iconic Landmarks in a Day

When travelers visit the Netherlands, most head to Amsterdam to experience its unique urban culture, often shopping for cannabis-related products or exploring the Red Light District. In contrast, the country’s second and third-largest cities, Rotterdam and The Hague, see fewer visitors. The Hague is home to the renowned International Court of Justice, where the recent South China Sea dispute between China and the Philippines was adjudicated,The Hague also boasts the distinctive Madurodam, where visitors can explore the Netherlands’ famous landmarks in just one day.

According to Dutch news website, this year marks Madurodam’s 65th anniversary. Within the park, visitors can see key Dutch landmarks such as the historic Binnenhof complex and Schiphol Airport. The structures are replicated at a 1:25 scale, with colors and dimensions accurately based on the originals.

In fact, Madurodam in The Hague is also facing pressure from global tourism competition. With numerous theme parks vying for visitors, the park once attracted up to one million visitors annually shortly after opening, but now sees between 650,000 and 700,000. In June this year, Madurodam CEO Joris van Dijk announced to the media plans to expand the park, aiming to boost visitor numbers to around 750,000.

For visitors, this is great news. The expansion will introduce more interactive experiences beyond the existing exhibitions, allowing guests to engage more actively rather than just observe. Current admission tickets cost €14.50.
