Latest Attractions in Rotterdam: Planting 20 Floating "Trees" on the Water

More and more people hope that a city can offer not just job opportunities, but also a friendly environment. But cities do have their limitations, and we never expected that the Netherlands, which faces similar challenges, would come up with an interesting solution that has created a new kind of urban scenery.

Rotterdam, an important city in the Netherlands, decided to tackle the issue of insufficient urban green space by planting trees “on the water.” In 2016, 20 “floating trees” will be placed in the Rijnhaven in the city center.

The concept actually comes from Jorge Bakker’s art piece “In Search of Habit,” where he planted trees in aquariums using buoys. Dutch artists and entrepreneurs brought this idea to life, and these 20 trees are set to be planted on March 16.

Rotterdam has always been a bold city willing to embrace new ideas. Fromthe trendy Markthal food market,the Cube Houses library,the Scandinavian-style McDonald’s, and more — the floating trees are definitely another exciting new attraction for travelers to look forward to.
