Even a traditional library can be truly unique. The renowned Dutch architecture firm MVRDV has built the Book Mountain library near the Port of Rotterdam. Its transparent pyramid design has successfully captured the attention of many visitors.

Inspired by traditional barns, the Book Mountain library aims to preserve the historical impression of agriculture in this city. It features a five-story bookshelf design connected by spiraling staircases. The clean lines add a modern spatial feel to the interior. In addition, the large glass shell allows ample natural light to flood the space, making it bright and airy. To promote sustainability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the library does not use air conditioning. Instead, it employs a ventilation system to cool the space in summer, and heated floors along with double-glazed windows for insulation in winter — every detail showcases thoughtful design.
