The Maritime Museum Rotterdam is a maritime-themed museum located in Rotterdam, South Holland Province. Opened in 1874 and founded by Prince Hendrik of Orange-Nassau, it primarily tells the nautical history of Rotterdam and houses a collection of maritime-related artifacts.

As the oldest maritime museum in the Netherlands and one of the world’s top maritime museums, the Maritime Museum Rotterdam is housed in a building designed by architect Wim Quist. The structure is a half-cube sliced diagonally, with its inclined edge facing the Leuvehaven, where the museum’s most captivating exhibit—the Royal Netherlands Navy ship Zr. Ms. Buffel—is moored. When it first opened in 1874, the museum had only 300 items in its collection. Over the years and through continuous acquisitions, it has grown to include around one million items, covering an incredibly broad and rich range of maritime heritage. These include ship models, paintings, photographs, nautical charts and globes, ship blueprints, photos, films, videos, navigational instruments, marine tools, furnishings from ships, as well as personal items such as clothing and diaries. In addition, visitors can watch a film dedicated to the history of the Port of Rotterdam.
