In 1137, Louis VII and Eleanor of Aquitaine held their wedding in this cathedral.

The northern side of the cathedral features the Gate of the King of Germany, built in 1250, which is carved with "The Last Judgment," regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of Gothic art. On the eastern side of the cathedral is the bell tower, built in 1440. Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of the cathedral and the entire city.
