Passionate and vibrant, Spain is a dream travel destination for many. For food and wine enthusiasts, Spanish wines hold an especially captivating allure. Spain boasts vast vineyard areas and is home to over 600 local grape varieties, making it the world’s third-largest wine producer. The Ganuza Winery is located in the heart of Spain’s key wine region — Rioja Alavesa in the Basque Country. Since its establishment in 1989, it has been renowned for producing high-quality wines with rich aromas and smooth palates, earning consistent praise from experts. In the 2009 Bordeaux International Wine Exhibition, it was selected as one of the eight best Mediterranean wines. The 2004 vintage of Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva was even awarded a perfect score of 100 points by the renowned wine critic Robert Parker.

The Ganuza Winery’s vineyards span 57 hectares, planted with grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha, among which Tempranillo accounts for 90% and is Spain’s most important grape variety. The key to the winery’s ability to produce premium wines lies with its owner — Fernando Remírez de Ganuza. He insists on using only the best grapes and maintaining cultivation methods that stay as close to nature as possible, allowing the wines to authentically reflect their flavors and vintages. In addition, he continuously innovates winemaking techniques. The Trasnocho wine, for instance, is made using a technique called the water bladder pressing method. This involves opening a hatch on top of the wine vat, placing a water-filled bladder inside, and using the weight of the water to gently press out the grape juice, thereby minimizing excessive oxidation or the development of overly herbaceous flavors.

Thanks to Fernando’s passion and dedication, the Ganuza Winery successfully blends tradition with innovation, consistently producing uniquely flavored wines. Ganuza wines have become one of Spain’s top-tier brands, exported to more than 20 countries around the world, including Taiwan, allowing more people to enjoy the taste of fine wine.
