Bordeaux

Bordeaux is a port city located in the southwest of France and is the country’s fourth-largest city after Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. It serves as the capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and the Gironde department, and is a hub for military, aerospace, and aviation research and manufacturing in Europe, as well as the core center for France’s strategic nuclear bomb research and physics experiments.

The Bordeaux region boasts abundant tourism resources, featuring many beautifully preserved medieval castles with picturesque scenery. Its urban planning has a long history, and the city is renowned for its diverse and colorful architectural styles. The classical and neoclassical building complexes have continued uninterrupted for over two centuries. In total, Bordeaux has more than 350 buildings listed as historical monuments, among which three religious structures were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998 as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. Places visitors can explore include the Place de la Bourse, the Palais Rohan, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, the Port of the Moon, and the Bordeaux Botanical Garden.

Since the 18th century, Bordeaux has been world-renowned for its premium wines and is often referred to as the “wine capital of the world.” Every two years on the last weekend of June, the Bordeaux Wine Festival is held — the largest wine tourism event in France — featuring not only a rich array of wine-related activities but also numerous art festivals.
