Andechs Monastery

Highlights   Beer Heaven   Introduction   Rebuilt after a great fire in 1675, this is a Rococo-style building where you can see some of Germany’s oldest prayer candles. In fact, most visitors come here to visit the Braustuberl, the monastery’s beer hall and garden, known as Beer Heaven. The monks have been brewing beer here for 500 years. Six different types of beer are served here, ranging from dark to light, all available. It’s always crowded with visitors, making it easy to forget that this is a religious site. On summer weekends, it’s especially packed, with long lines at the food and drink stalls.   Transport   Take S-Bahn line 6 to Starnberg or S-Bahn line 5 to Herrsching, then transfer to a bus. There are three such buses per day. On Sundays, there are two.
