St. Peter's Church, Munich

St. Peter's Church in Munich is the oldest church in the city center of Munich, Germany. A church had already stood here before the founding of Munich in 1158, located at the southeast corner of Marienplatz. Locals in Munich commonly refer to it as "Alter Peter" (Old Peter). This church has a fascinating history and is also one of the favorite attractions for visitors today.

When it was first built, St. Peter's Church featured a Gothic architectural style with two spires. After being rebuilt in the 18th century following a fire, it was transformed into a Baroque structure adorned with Rococo decorations, and only one of the towers remains. This tower stands 92 meters tall and offers the best panoramic view in the city. On the eve of the end of World War II, the church was almost completely destroyed. Shortly after the war, comprehensive reconstruction began and continued until the project was completed in the year 2000.

The interior of the church is decorated in the Rococo style with white and gold tones, giving it an elegant and luxurious feel. The treasury room, which displays jewelry and skulls with hair, is also worth a visit. At the center of the main altar is a statue of St. Peter, and the four saints depicted slightly below are particularly beautiful. The church features an observation deck at the top of its spire, where visitors can climb to enjoy the view. On clear days, the Alps can even be seen. Entry to the church is free, but there is a fee to go up the tower.
