Beer and Oktoberfest Museum

The Beer and Oktoberfest Museum is located in an ancient 14th-century burgher’s house in Munich. Established on September 7, 2005, it primarily offers visitors valuable information about the history of beer and Munich’s Oktoberfest.

A wide range of exhibits in the museum provide a detailed and vivid account of the history of this golden beverage: from the earliest brewing techniques used by Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Celts, and Germans, to Germany’s Reinheitsgebot (Beer Purity Law), and finally to Munich’s beer. Visitors can explore all the important details about one of the world’s most significant folk festivals—Oktoberfest—on two additional floors. Originating in 1810 as part of the wedding celebration of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen, the event evolved from a national festival into one of the largest folk festivals in the world, beloved by many. Closed on Mondays, Sundays, and public holidays. Guided tours available upon request.
