Taiyuan Liberation Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

Taiyuan Liberation Memorial Hall is located at Niutuozhai in the eastern hills of Taiyuan City. It was formerly the Niutuozhai Martyrs' Cemetery, built in 1959 and expanded in 1988. Covering an area of over 93,000 square meters, it is divided into three sections: the Monument Area, the Exhibition Area, and the Tomb Area. The overall architecture is majestic, undulating, and well arranged, giving visitors a solemn feeling. The Monument Area consists of the Triumphal Arch, the main and auxiliary monuments of the Taiyuan Liberation Monument, among other structures. The golden characters “Taiyuan Liberation Monument,” inscribed by Marshal Xu Xiangqian, adorn the grand monument. The exhibition hall covers an area of 1,200 square meters and displays 428 historical photos and over 120 artifacts, reflecting the entire process of the Battle of Taiyuan. On September 6, 1994, a bronze statue of Marshal Xu Xiangqian was unveiled. The site is a National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base and a National Classic Red Tourism Destination.

The Taiyuan Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument features a unique design resembling a giant key, with the gilt characters “Liberation of Taiyuan Monument” engraved on it. The monument stands 49.424 meters tall, symbolizing the date of Taiyuan’s liberation, and together with the dark red key-shaped structure, represents Taiyuan’s path to freedom and happiness. Beneath the inscription hangs an 8-meter-diameter stainless steel openwork sculpture, depicting a joyful Shanxi woman carrying a child on her shoulders and stretching out her arms, expressing the boundless joy and bright hopes of the people of Shanxi after gaining liberation.

To the southwest of the main monument is an auxiliary monument shaped like a blown-up bunker. With a diameter of 24 meters, its four walls are inlaid with large reliefs vividly portraying the suffering of the people of Taiyuan before liberation and their spirit of resisting oppression and fighting for emancipation.

On the west side of the cemetery gate stands a white Triumphal Arch, shaped like a pair of steel pliers. Beneath the pliers lies a marble turtle shell, symbolizing the phrase “catching a turtle in a jar.”
