On the morning of September 4, the China Automobile Culture Grand Tour and the Autumn Journey of the National Highway G318, led by the prestigious Chinese luxury SUV — WEY VV6, arrived at Chizhou Station, the starting point of the ten-thousand-mile westward journey along G318. The first “Must-Drive 318” landmark in southern Anhui is established in Xinghua Village, Chizhou

Chizhou boasts profound cultural heritage, renowned for its Buddhist culture, poetry culture, opera culture, and tea culture, both nationally and internationally. It also enjoys a superior transportation location and abundant natural resources, making it a core city in the Southern Anhui International Cultural Tourism Demonstration Zone.

Additionally, Chizhou is an important node on the Anhui section of National Highway 318. Section 476KM of Highway 318 lies within Chizhou, with 5,000KM remaining to the endpoint — marking the starting point of the ten-thousand-mile westward journey. The Autumn Journey of the National Highway G318 aims to help Chizhou become a tourism hub in southern Anhui by infusing the highway culture IP.

Car enthusiasts from the Chizhou Self-driving and RV Camping Association (in preparation) and the HOG Chapter of Harley-Davidson Hefei lined up to witness the event and participate in the grand tour.

Since its grand launch in Jiading, Shanghai on September 1, the official fleet of the China Automobile Culture Grand Tour — integrating highway culture IP, domestic car brands, and custom modifications, carrying the mission of promoting Chinese automotive culture and representing the advanced productive forces of self-driving in China — held its first urban parade in Chizhou. Over 50 locally registered vehicles and 12 Harley motorcycles joined the official fleet, parading through Lianhuatai, Qiupu Road, and Xinghua Village Avenue in downtown Chizhou before arriving at the Xinghua Village Cultural Tourism Area.

Chizhou is rich in tourism resources, including Mount Jiuhua — one of China’s Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains — and the historic village of Xinghua, the inspiration for Du Mu’s poetic line “A shepherd boy points to Xinghua Village afar.” With beautiful ecological surroundings and a forest coverage rate of 60%, it is truly a natural ecological park and a city of landscapes. The fleet later also toured Xinghua Village, experiencing the refined charm hidden in ancient poetry and visiting the first “Must-Drive 318” landmark in the southern Anhui cultural tourism area.

Amidst poetic landscapes and lingering tea aroma, the fleet also visited the Chizhou Runsi Qihong Tea Factory — China’s largest producer of Qimen black tea, established in 1951. Yin Tianji, Chairman of Anhui Guorun Tea Industry, introduced the factory’s history and development to fleet members, presenting them with “everyday tea,” whose rich fragrance will accompany the Autumn Journey of the National Highway G318 all the way.

To commemorate this unique journey and pay tribute to this great highway, the event organizers also created a custom70 commemorative license platesRepresenting each year from 1949 to 2019, the 70 plates symbolize 70 years of Chizhou’s development.

These license plates are available for limited distribution to people around the world who love Chizhou and Highway 318. By sharing your story or connection with Chizhou or the 318 National Highway, you may have the chance to apply for a plate. Together with other stops along the route, they form the special expression “2520” (70 plates × 36 stops) — that is, “2 (love) 5 (me) 2 (love) 0 (you),” expressing love for China — and will be recorded in the cultural history of the National Highway G318.

The China Automobile Culture Grand Tour and the Autumn Journey of the National Highway G318 is planned and initiated by Aijia Media, with the prestigious Chinese luxury SUV — WEY VV6 — serving as the lead vehicle. It is guided by the Shanghai Automobile Culture Festival Organizing Committee, the International Mountain Tourism Alliance, and the Tourism & Transportation Committee of the China Highway Society. From August 30 to October 4, spanning 36 days and covering 36 stops from Shanghai to the China-Nepal border, the tour collaborates with local governments, research institutions, national self-driving associations, and clubs. With a user-oriented perspective, it offers an in-depth experience and collective exploration of G318, paying tribute to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China through a cultural celebration of the highway.

This event is a key step in the productization of the National Highway G318 highway IP — bringing the “Must-Drive 318” highway IP to life and introducing the national highway to more Chinese people. It follows the vision of “building Highway 318 into China’s first self-driving tourism economic belt,” which first entered the national agenda during the 2016 Two Sessions; the 2017 professional survey from an industry perspective that produced the “Must-Drive 318” travel map; and the 2018 collaboration with 31 local management authorities that led to the conceptualization and planning of the highway IP, which gained unanimous approval.
