Taiyuan Dongshan Ecological Park

Dongshan Ecological Park was developed in line with Taiyuan’s urban ecological environment construction goals to transform the eastern hills into the city’s “back garden.” Tree planting and afforestation efforts have been carried out on the hillsides and mountaintops around areas such as Changgou, Dongping, Yaotou, and Xiling, where species like Xinjiang poplar, Chinese scholar tree, Chinese pine, and oriental arborvitae have been planted to form a green belt encircling the park, covering an area of 3,850 mu. The hilly areas within the park have been developed into economic forests, including the establishment of a 10,000-tree apricot forest in Zhongjianhe Township and a grape-focused valley in Xiaohuixiang. In addition, large-scale ecological agriculture projects have been built, such as the Yangjiayu Flower and Seedling Base, the Changgou High-Tech Intelligent Greenhouse, and the Xiaohuixiang Thousand-Mu Grape Garden. These initiatives organically integrate ecological development with agricultural transformation, rural progress, and increased farmer incomes, striving to benefit farmers, enrich the nation, and enhance greenery.

The total investment in the construction of Dongshan Ecological Park will exceed 200 million yuan. Of this, the district government will contribute 30%–40%, social investment will account for 30%, and the remaining portion will be raised by relevant departments. To attract social investment, the district will offer preferential policies such as exemption from business tax for three years. Once completed, Dongshan Ecological Park will serve as Taiyuan’s green ecological barrier and become a sightseeing, leisure, and back garden destination for the people of Longcheng. It is a systematic project that benefits the people, aligns with public opinion, and improves livelihoods. The industrialization of ecological construction and the ecologization of industries reflect the green vision of Xinghualing District—a vivid microcosm of Taiyuan’s goal to become a city of blue skies, white clouds, green mountains, and clear waters.

According to reports, during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, Xinghualing District will continue to strengthen ecological development in Dongshan in accordance with the strategic plan of promoting provincial and urban development through ecology. Adhering to the principles of Party committee leadership, government guidance, social participation, market operation, and diversified investment, the district will adopt methods such as ecological compensation, mountain adoption, industrialized development, and voluntary tree planting. The goal is to fully complete the 65,800-mu greening task set for the 12th Five-Year Plan period within three years, including the establishment of 40,500 mu of high-standard new forests and the upgrade of 25,300 mu of low-yield forests. Upon completion of these tasks, Xinghualing District will establish an ecological and modern urban agricultural industry layout featuring “one ring,” “two routes,” “three bases,” and “four zones,” with forest coverage exceeding 35%. This will deliver significant ecological protection and benefits to the provincial capital.
