Boats cost $13–$17 per hour, surrey rides are $20, bikes are $8, and inline skates are $6.) Introduction to Golden Gate Park, spanning 1,017 acres (approximately 411.55 hectares), extends over three miles west from Stanyan Street all the way to Ocean Beach. Designed in 1871 by 24-year-old William Hammond Hall, this largest park in San Francisco transformed windswept sand dunes into one of the world’s largest urban parks. It boasts numerous walking paths and gardens and serves as the city’s “green lung.” Additionally, it houses three popular urban museums—the California Academy of Sciences, the Asian Art Museum, and the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum. Cultural attractions include a Japanese-style tea garden, windmills, and historic statues.
