Introduction

Silicon Valley is an important electronic industry base in the United States and one of the world’s most renowned hubs for electronics. Approximately 1,500 computer companies have established themselves in Silicon Valley. It is characterized by its reliance on nearby world-renowned U.S. universities with strong research capabilities, such as Stanford, Berkeley, and Caltech, a foundation built on a cluster of high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises, and the presence of major corporations like Cisco, Intel, HP, Lucent, and Apple. The region integrates science, technology, and manufacturing. A century ago, this area was filled with orchards and vineyards, but since high-tech companies such as International Business Machines and Apple Computer set up here, it has transformed into a bustling town. In just over a decade, Silicon Valley has produced countless tech millionaires.

TransportationTake the BART to Fremont BART Station, then transfer to the 180 Express Bus (fare $3.5), and get off at Civic Center (or Great Mall) before transferring to the light rail to Lick Mill. Alternatively, take the Caltrain and transfer to the light rail at Mountain View to Lick Mill. It is located in the approximately 25-mile-long (40,232.5-meter) valley stretching from Palo Alto to San Jose at the southern end of San Francisco.
