Jefferson Memorial
Introduction Built in honor of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, the memorial was initiated under the supervision of President Roosevelt in 1938 and completed in 1943. The memorial is designed in the style of a Roman Pantheon-style dome, which Jefferson favored, and is a white marble structure standing 96 feet tall. Every April, cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin near the memorial bloom, creating a stunning scene with the reflection of the memorial in the water.
