Stone Mountain Park, also known as Georgia's Stone Mountain Park. The park is located east of downtown Atlanta, about a 30-minute drive away. Atlanta was a key strategic location for the Southern states during the American Civil War, and it is home to many Civil War-related sites, including this park. The most famous Civil War-related attraction in the park is the massive relief sculpture carved into the mountainside, depicting three prominent leaders of the Confederate States of America: President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee, and General Stonewall Jackson. The sculpture was completed in 1972 and is known as "the largest and most spectacular high-relief sculpture in the world." The park also preserves a volcano from the last century and serves as a popular spot for weekend leisure and walks among Atlanta residents.
