Also known as the Red Cathedral, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon is one of the most iconic landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City. Located in the heart of Vietnam’s southern metropolis, it serves as the cathedral church of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City and is the largest church in the city.

Constructed in 1877, the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon is a remnant of the colonial period, and its architecture closely resembles that of the Florence Cathedral in Italy. Fortunately, it survived the wars unscathed and still retains its vintage charm and timeless beauty. The entire cathedral is built from red bricks, creating a majestic and magnificent structure. The ornate carvings on the exterior are exquisitely detailed, and remarkably, none of the red bricks have faded or been damaged over time. The bell towers at the front of the cathedral rise to a height of 58 meters, modeled after the Notre-Dame de Paris. In the garden square in front of the cathedral stands a four-ton statue of the Virgin Mary, a gift from the Vatican in 1945. The square often gathers many people seeking rest and reflection, making it a spiritual haven. This Catholic cathedral remains in active use, drawing large numbers of devout worshippers every Sunday and on religious holidays.
