Kumano City is located in the southern part of Mie Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean and about 20 kilometers from the border of Wakayama Prefecture. Though not a major urban center, it boasts plenty of stunning natural attractions. The city’s breathtaking natural scenery will absolutely captivate you, leaving you in awe of nature’s artistry.

Like other cities in the region, Kumano City’s coastline features some unique rock formations. Among them, Onigajo Rock is the most famous and is believed to be the hiding place of a demon, while Shishi Rock strikingly resembles a lion gazing out at the sea, incredibly lifelike. One kilometer south of the city lies Kako Shrine, which according to legend is the burial site of Izanami. The city also boasts fun-filled beaches perfect for swimming; Shinryo Beach, Ohama Beach, and Shichiri no Hama are must-visits, especially for surfers, who flock here daily to challenge the waves and push their limits.
